Mobile Medical Clinics: Bridging Healthcare Gaps in Ukraine

Mobile Medical Clinics: Bridging Healthcare Gaps in Ukraine At the end of September 2023, three medical facilities from different parts of Ukraine received mobile clinics, aiming to improve medical access in areas close to conflict zones and sparsely populated rural regions. The significant damage to healthcare facilities, the shortage of medical personnel due to labor and forced migration of doctors, the high number of internally displaced persons, and the relocation of healthcare institutions due to the consequences of Russia's military aggression against Ukraine—all of these factors have led to an increased need for various forms of mobile medical assistance, involving teams of doctors and nurses. The global Rotarian community responded to a project initiated by Rotary Club Lviv International and continues to support it through a series of Rotary Global Grants titled "Mobile Emergency Clinics." Three more trailers were transported to Kherson, Poltava, and Kyiv regions with the support of our Rotary E-Club of Ukraine and in the partnership with Rotary Club Reno. These healthcare institutions responded to Rotary's call to organize the provision of mobile medical assistance to their communities and neighboring territories, committing to their effective use. The initial results of the effective use of mobile clinics are already visible in community pages and hospitals: (KNP "Boryspil City CPMSD" logo with link https://www.facebook.com/boryspilpc) KMP "Boryspil City Central Polyclinic Medical and Sanitary Unit" (KNP "CPMSD Senchanska Village Council" logo with link https://www.facebook.com/groups/1286180951848693) KMP "CPMSD Senchanska Village Council Medical and Sanitary Unit" (KNP "Kherson Children's Regional Clinical Hospital" logo with link https://www.facebook.com/khersonchild) KMP "Kherson Children's Regional Clinical Hospital" KHOR The mobile clinic is equipped with autonomous power supply, water supply, conditioning (heating), and furnished with all necessary medical equipment and furniture. Now, thanks to it, we can reach remote communities without outpatient clinics and provide the entire range of medical services. In addition to family doctors' visits, plans include visits from specialists such as surgeons, traumatologists, gynecologists, cardiologists, ultrasound diagnostics doctors, and even dentists, as the mobile clinic is equipped with a portable ultrasound machine and dental unit. The range of specialists will expand over time considering the needs of the communities, thanks to the cooperation between primary and specialized medical care. The initiation of the "Mobile Emergency Clinics" project, determination of the clinics' equipment, and further scaling are coordinated with the Ministry of Health of Ukraine. Therefore, we invite Rotary clubs worldwide to continue the initiated initiative and support further global grants for the production and equipping of mobile clinics for Ukraine. The appearance of these three mobile clinics became possible through the Rotary International Global Grant system, with financial and partnership participation from over 20(!) Rotary clubs of District 5190 (USA, states of California and Nevada). «Plast Cherkasy» Ukrainian Scoutings – Children Rehabilitation and Educational Weekends

The modern world is full of challenges that demand resilience, adaptability, and the ability to cope with stress from each of us. To grow, contribute to the victory, and ensure the prosperity of our country, it is essential not only to overcome difficulties but also to find ways to maintain inner balance. The war has affected everyone, forcing even children and teenagers to mature early: to learn how to take care of themselves, make important decisions independently, and adapt to the conditions dictated by reality. At this time, supporting the younger generation becomes especially important. Children who have suffered losses or been forced to leave their homes need not only basic survival conditions but also psychological, emotional, and social assistance. Restoring their self-confidence, fostering leadership qualities, developing the ability to work in a team, and finding solutions in crisis situations are critically important for their future. Over the past year, the organization Plast in collaboration with Rotary Club has conducted nearly 20 events for children, including those who are internally displaced persons (IDPs). These activities are aimed at developing leadership skills, independence, resilience, teamwork, and physical activity. During these events, children not only acquired useful knowledge and skills but also made new friends, regained confidence in themselves, and found hope for their future. We are convinced that creating additional opportunities for learning, recovery, and development for young people will not only benefit each individual child but also make a significant contribution to the future of our entire country. To improve the quality of our work and increase the number of children we help to become better, we need the following tools. Total budget 9000 $

«Sails of Hope» Rehabilitation camps for children-yachtmen

The planning of rehabilitation camps for children-sailors affected by the war in Ukraine in 2025 requires thorough preparation and collaboration among various organizations. Key areas of focus should include: 1. Goals and Objectives of the Camps The primary goal is rehabilitation and providing emotional and physical support to children affected by the war. The camps should foster a safe environment where children can restore their mental well-being through participation in water-based sports and rehabilitation programs. Sailing, as a symbol of freedom and recovery, should play a central role. 2. Organization and Logistics Partnerships: Collaboration with international and local charitable foundations to ensure financial and material support. Locations: Camps should be set up near water bodies with developed infrastructure for water sports and rehabilitation programs, such as lakes or coastal areas. Transport and Logistics: Safe transportation of children from affected regions to the camp locations must be ensured. 3. Camp Program Psychological Rehabilitation: Individual and group sessions with qualified psychologists trained to work with war-affected children. Sailing and Other Sports Activities: Sailing lessons to help develop discipline, independence, and teamwork. Creative Workshops: Art therapy, drawing, and music sessions to provide emotional relief and self-expression. Cultural Program: Excursions, evening events, and meetings with renowned athletes and artists to inspire children. 4. Team and Volunteers Recruiting experienced sailing coaches, psychologists, medical staff, and volunteers is crucial. Building trusting relationships between children and adults is vital for effective rehabilitation. 5. Financing Develop detailed financial plans and seek sponsors, grants, and charitable contributions. Collaboration with international organizations and governments supporting Ukraine in the context of war recovery is essential. 6. Monitoring and Evaluation of Results A system to assess the effectiveness of the camps is necessary, including psychological tests before and after the camps, and observing changes in the emotional states of the children. This will help improve and adapt programs to meet participants’ needs. Lessons from 2023-2024 Camps Experience from the 2023-2024 rehabilitation camps revealed several key aspects for consideration: 1. Group Division Beginners: Children with little or no sailing experience require more attention and an adapted program combining basic theory and practical training. Experienced Sailors: Children with prior training can handle more advanced tasks and exercises, such as practicing on different types of sailboats and participating in competitions. 2. Additional Trainer Boat Requirement Having two separate trainer boats is essential for: Ensuring safety on the water, especially for beginners who require constant supervision. Facilitating parallel training sessions, increasing the efficiency of lessons. 3. Purchase of Additional Equipment A motorized trainer boat is necessary for assistance and quick response to water incidents, as well as for supervising participants. Total budget 7500 $

ROTARY SAVES LIVES: BLOOD DONOR DAYS

Project Idea: Popularizing blood donation and enhancing Rotary recognition among citizens in Kharkiv and other Ukrainian cities. Project Mission: Blood donation exemplifies service to society, where individuals give to others, and their bodies renew in return. Project Goal: Establish blood donation as a regular Rotary club event, occurring every 2 months. Expand the audience of regular donors, associate blood donation with Kharkiv Rotary, and assist other Rotary clubs in Ukraine in making blood donation a routine community event. Background: The Kharkiv Regional Center of Blood Service reports a shortage of all blood types in our city. Given Kharkiv's proximity to the frontline and ongoing emergency medical needs, Rotary Club "Kharkiv Nadiya" collaborated with the center to organize eight donor days last two year at our office. We successfully collected over 200 liters of blood, potentially saving 600 lives, with 208 participants including Rotarians, Rotaractors, their families, and friends. Future Plans: We aspire to continue Rotary Blood Donor Days in 2025 and extend this impactful project to other cities in Ukraine –Sumy, Dnepr, Zaporizhzhia. To ensure a sustained impact, we are seeking a donation of $3820 to conduct six donor days in Kharkiv and in other cities. Each $470 covers venue maintenance, refreshments, transportation, and crucial media support for one Blood Donation Day. We are planning to purchase the EcoFlow Delta 2 Charging Station to ensure uninterrupted operation of the equipment during a blackout. Utilizing both printed and digital media, we aim to promote blood donation, associating Rotary with impactful acts of goodness.
